The Five Church Walk

In aid of the five churches on the route, Kent Air Ambulance and the Pilgrims Hospices

You can start the walk at any time from 10am onwards, from either Chilham, Godmersham, Boughton Aluph, Challock or Molash churches.

The well-marked paths link these churches in a clockwise circular 16 mile route following footpaths, bridleways, country lanes and private paths made available by special permission of the land-owners.

The route is in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and it passes through some of the most scenic countryside in East Kent for all to enjoy, and with millions of bluebells in flower and the cuckoo calling you can be sure of a lovely day. You can choose to complete the whole circuit or any part of it, and start and finish at any of the five churches.

This will be the thirty third annual sponsored walk, held in aid of the five participating churches, the Kent Air Ambulance and/or the Pilgrims Hospices. In Chaucer's Footsteps - Pilgrimage to Canterbury

In Chaucer's Footsteps - Pilgrimage to Canterbury

Mon, 28 May 2018 10:00

28th London to Canterbury Pilgrimage

Walk in Chaucer's footsteps from St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square to Canterbury. Much of the 74 mile route follows ancient paths along the North Downs. The pilgrimage will take place from Friday, 25th May to Monday 28th May.

Pilgrims will pause for refreshments at All Saints, Boughton Aluph between about 10.00 and 12.00

If the weather is inclement there is usually a welcoming fire burning in the fireplace in the south porch. This is an unusual feature to find in a church, but it has served many previous generations of pilgrims on their way to the shrine of St Thomas Becket

The pilgrimage raises funds for The Connection, based at St Martin in the Fields since 1948. The charity helps homeless people by providing specialist services – including a day and night centre, outreach for rough sleepers, skills training and career advice, activity programmes and specialist support for complex needs – to over 200 people in central London every day.

Last year the pilgrimage raised over £49K for the work of The Connection.

Volunteers needed 28th May to make sandwiches and other savoury food for the pilgrims. Please contact Sue Powell

Family Forest Skills

Tue, 29 May 2018 10:00

Family Forest Skills

10.00 - 12.00

A morning in beautiful ancient woodland at Denstead Wood, near Chartham Hatch, learning exciting bushcraft activities.

Discover ways to have fun outdoors as a family; learning fire lighting without matches; and practicing archery skills, after making your own bow and arrow from natural materials.

Short walk from parking area to site, partly uphill. There is some uneven ground and it may be muddy. Wear outdoor, warm clothing suitable for the weather: sturdy footwear, long trousers, long sleeves, waterproofs. Please bring a drink. Shelters will be used if weather is wet.
