Wye Level Crossing closure: nine mile detour for drivers

Wye Level Crossing closure: nine mile detour for drivers

Network Rail will close the road and footway over Wye level crossing from 23:45 on Monday 14th January, until 05.00 on Tuesday 15th January. This will enable enable engineers to make a rail foot inspection of the level crossing. KCC Highways advises drivers to take a detour of about nine miles via Harville Road, A28 Canterbury Road, A2070 Willesborough Road, Kennington Road, The Street (Willesborough), Hinxhill Road, Naccolt Road, Oxenturn Road, Upper Bridge Street, High Street, Churchfield Way and Bridge Street.

The Hinxhill Road is closed currently for emergency water main repairs. KCC's detour route relies on it being reopened in time.

Buses will replace the 23.40, 00.40 and 01.10 train services from Ashford to Canterbury. No London bound services will be affected by the crossing closure.

Network Rail also plans to close the Wye level crossing again on Sunday 24th February between 07.00 and 19.00 to move ballast.
