Planning Applications

"The way we approach development affects everyone. The impacts of our decisions as a society have very real consequences for people's lives. Poor planning of communities, for example, reduces the quality of life for the people who live in them." (Sustainable Development Commission)

Development affects everyone. The impacts of even the most minor planning decisions can have very real consequences, both positive and negative, for individual lives. The planning system seeks to balance different, and usually competing needs and demands against environmental, social and economic constraints and long-term sustainability.

High quality 'local needs' housing

The Parish Council is a statutory consultee on all planning applications and Listed Building applications within the parish. As a courtesy, Ashford Borough Council also consults the Parish Council on any large applications beyond the parish boundary which may affect Wye residents. Although the Parish Council considers and comments on all planning applications that affect the parish, the power to approve or refuse an application always rests with Ashford Borough Council as the local planning authority.

Current planning applications

The Parish Council discusses each planning application, either at its regular meeting on the first Thursday of each month, or at the Resources and General Purposes Committee, on the third Thursday of each month. The Agenda for each meeting will be published at least three days prior to each meeting, and these notices list the current applications to be considered.

This website has the facility to display a rolling list of all live planning applications for the parish of Wye with Hinxhill. However, Ashford Borough Council's current IT system is not compatible as a feed source. Please again check later.

Pre-application consultations

The Parish Council aims to achieve the best possible outcome from each development and welcomes informal, pre-application consultations and encourages developers and their agents to make contact. Early engagement saves all parties time and money and achieves better outcomes.

Ashford Borough Council has an agreed protocol for handling pre-application consultations. First developed in partnership with Wye with Hinxhill Parish Council in 2011, this protocol now applies to all parish councils across the borough.
